The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Holley-Navarre Fire District has approved that the following question be added to the ballot for the November 8, 2022 general election.
Proposed change to Ad Valorem Fire Assessments
LEVYING OF AD VALOREM TAXES INSTEAD OF NON-AD VALOREM ASSESSMENTS
“Do you approve authorizing the Holley-Navarre Fire District to levy ad valorem taxes against the taxable real estate within the district with a cap of 3.75 mils as authorized by Florida law, instead of current non-ad valorem assessments? Approval does not mean the Fire District will immediately set the millage rate at the maximum allowed.”
What benefits will the change provide?
1. Advanced Life Support (ALS) - Advanced Life Support Paramedics save lives! Recurring ALS costs- Equipment replacement, Narcotics, Medical Director, Medic training, Medic pay incentives for recruitment and retention.
2. Recurring operating costs for Station 44 (Holley)- Received a grant for construction, now we will need to properly staff and operate the fire station.
3. Apparatus replacement- Recurring costs for timely replacement of fire engines and support vehicles.
4. Minimum wage impacts – HNFD is striving to maintain a rate of a minimum 30% above minimum wage. Firefighting is not a minimum wage career. HNFD needs competitive wages for your employees to remain your employees.
